07.06.2022 – Those who are registered with the Agentur für Arbeit (AfA) and the Job Centre will receive a one-time contribution directly from the corresponding institution. The aim is to compensate, at least partially, for the increase in the cost of living.

Subsidies for energy costs in addition to unemployment benefits
Members of the Employment Agency (AfA) who are entitled to unemployment benefits, at least once in July 2022, will receive an additional one-time payment of 100 euros. The payment will be made automatically, starting in August 2022. It is not necessary to submit an application.
Those who receive the unemployment benefit II from the Job Centre will not receive an increase in benefit, but will instead, be entitled to a one-time payment from the Job Centre.

One-time payment through Job centre
Those registered with the Job centre who are entitled to unemployment benefit II or social benefits will receive a one-time payment of 200 euros in July 2022.
Prerequisites: One of the following standard requirement levels must apply:
⦁ Standard requirement for single persons and lone parents,
⦁ Standard requirement for adult partners.

The payment will be made automatically at the end of July; there is no need to submit an application to the employment agency.
The beneficiaries will be informed in written form.

Contributions to energy costs for other categories of persons
Not only those receiving unemployment benefit or unemployment benefit II will receive this financial contribution in the form of a one-time payment.

Who will receive the one-time contribution of 230 euros ?

The categories concerned by the contribution are: persons with disabilities, students receiving a professional training allowance (Berufsausbildungsbeihilfe or BAB) and students receiving a training allowance (Ausbildungsgeld or Abg). You can only qualify for the allowance if you no longer live with your family of origin; this means that the person in question has to directly bear the ancillary costs (heating and electricity).

Contributions to energy costs are also given to persons with disabilities who receive a training allowance. People with disabilities who are in the first screening phase (Eingangsverfahren or entry procedure) are also included in the contribution. This procedure determines whether the person with a disability is able to participate in the activities of a workshop for the disabled (Werkstatt) or determine other residual abilities. The same applies to persons participating in a similar measure.

In order for the subsidy to be paid, the period of the training allowance or vocational training allowance must be between 1 October 2021 and 31 March 2022 (period affected by the economic crisis). It is not necessary to apply for a deduction for energy costs. Payment will be made automatically with the end of July 2022.

Persons who receive housing allowance (Wohngeld) in addition to the BAB or Abg are excluded. These will receive the energy allowance through the Wohngeldstelle (housing allowance office).

Note: the information on the deduction for energy costs was updated on 11 July 2022.
