Living together. Living better.

On December 3, 2021, to celebrate The International Day od Disabled Persons, declared by the United Nation in 1992, the Associations Artemisia e.V, Emergency Deutschland, the Bezirksamt Friedrichshain-Kreuzberg Behindertenbeauftragte and the AWO Begegnugszentrum will organize the event “Inklusion get uns alle an” for its third edition with the aim of promoting the participation of all those who during the pandemic have found themselves alone and isolated. The event will take place at Statthaus Böcklerpark Prinzenstraße 1.

The day is now a tradition for the neighborhood and it’s a great opportunity to raise awareness on the rights of people with disabilities who still have difficulties related to inclusion. The Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities has not yet been fully taken up by the signatory countries.

The situation in Germany is complicated, the country is well organized in terms of disabled people’s employment but has weaknesses from the point of view of inclusiveness. Disabled
people work but are exploited economically, have no possibility to change jobs and do not feel part of the working environment. One example of this scenario is the situation in schools: they do not present inclusive teaching because of the strong political and cultural limitations that still make the existence of special schools possible. They are seen by teachers and parents as a protected place of education.

The day’s agenda is full of interesting events in which music will be the leading thread. We recommend arriving early in order to check vaccination or complete recovery from Covid. During the evening Gino Strada, who died last August, will of course be remembered. A doctor, activist, and the founder of Emergency.
